Dr. Mark X. Zou Honored Among Top 10 “Returned Students”
CHENGDU—The Chengdu Bureau of Foreign Experts recently named AllTech Medical Systems’ CEO, Dr. Mark X. Zou, among its premier list of "Top 10 Returned Overseas Students." The prestigious new title reflects numerous positive contributions made by Dr. Zou to the city’s economic and social development.
After the reopening of the college entrance examination system in 1977, Dr. Zou numbered among China’s first batch of undergraduate students to pursue degrees abroad. As one of 100 students sponsored by the government, Dr. Zou traveled to the US to earn his Master of Science followed by his doctorate in physics from the renowned Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). In June 1990, he became MIT’s very first recipient of a physics doctorate in MRI science.
In June 2005, Dr. Zou returned to repay his homeland’s support by investing in his roots. He began by founding AMS in Chengdu’s High-tech Zone with a total investment of more than 300 million RMB. Since then, additional investors include such famous high-tech venture capital companies as China Construction Bank (CCB) International, CDH Investments, and Jiangsu Govtor Capital. Specializing in the research and development, manufacturing, and marketing of high-field superconducting MR systems, AMS has already made an indelible mark on the industry of medical diagnostic imaging.
In further recognition of recipients’ achievements, the Chengdu Municipal Government will hold a grand ceremony on Dec. 6, 2011, where Dr. Zou will make a speech as the representative of the winners.
